The Athletics recalled right-hander Ross Wolf and selected the contract of right-hander Justin James from Triple-A Sacramento on Wednesday. Lefty Cedrick Bowers was outrighted to Sacramento.
Wolf was with the A's from July 7 to Aug. 21. During that time, he posted a 2.45 ERA in four games but didn't make an appearance after July 29 -- a span of 21 games. The 27-year-old, acquired from the Orioles on June 22, has gone 0-1 with a 5.59 ERA and three saves in 10 appearances through two stints in Triple-A.
The 28-year-old James, who signed a Minor League contract with Oakland on June 19, posted a 2.29 ERA in 12 relief appearances at Double-A Midland then had a 1.37 ERA in 16 outings for Sacramento.
Bowers gave up seven runs in 14 innings (a 4.50 ERA) for the A's.
