A's and City of Mesa Enter Spring Training Negotiations

The Oakland Athletics and the city of Mesa, Ariz., have entered into exclusive negotiations to host the A's Spring Training operations in Arizona.  The exclusivity begins today and lasts through May 15, 2012.

The A's and Mesa will discuss moving the Athletics Spring Training and year-round minor league operations to Hohokam Park and Fitch Park.  During this exclusive period, both parties will negotiate only with each other without any other third party contact.  The negotiating window can be extended by mutual agreement and the approval of the Mesa City Council.

Oakland originally held Spring Training in Mesa after moving from Florida prior to the 1969 season, spending 10 years in the city.  The Athletics moved to Scottsdale in 1979 and have trained in Phoenix since 1982.  The A's current agreement with the city of Phoenix expires after the 2014 season.

The A's will have no further comment until an agreement has been reached or negotiations have ended.
