Ellis, Cust exit Friday's game

SEATTLE -- The Athletics were dropping like flies during Friday's game at Safeco Field.

First, Oakland second baseman Mark Ellis was replaced at the start of the bottom of the second inning by Eric Patterson due to right shoulder pain.

Ellis struck out in his only at-bat to lead off the game.

Then at the start of the bottom of the third, left fielder Jack Cust left the game with blurred vision. Rajai Davis replaced Cust and moved to center field. Starting center fielder Carlos Gonzalez then moved to right, while starting right fielder Emil Brown moved to left.

Cust popped out to first in his only at-bat.
