OAKLAND -- Jonny Gomes had his uniform on, his hat on backward and a bat in his hand. He was ready to go for Sunday's game between the West and Southeast at the Little League World Series in Williamsport, Pa.

The West is represented by Petaluma, a city about 40 miles north of Oakland and the Southeast is represented by a team from Goodlettsville, Tenn.

Gomes, who grew up in Petaluma, wore a specially designed muscle shirt with "West" written across the front and "Petaluma" on his back. He was also wearing a Petaluma hat too.

"Just from watching them, you can tell they really do play the game well," Gomes said moments before first pitch. "I'd tell them to keep playing the same six innings they have been playing."

The game was shown on the big-screen television that fills most of one wall in the A's clubhouse. At least seven other players were scattered around in chairs and on the sofa.

Gomes found it hard to sit through a messy first inning and screamed encouragement several times.

"He would walk into the screen if he could," A's administrator Bob Rose observed.

Tennessee won, 9-6, thanks to a four-run sixth inning, but Petaluma is still alive in the double-elimination tournament.
