A’s Reinstate Anderson from the DL; Option Straily to Sacramento

OAKLAND, Calif. – The Oakland A’s reinstated left-handed pitcher Brett Anderson from the 60-day disabled list and optioned right-handed pitcher Dan Straily to Triple-A Sacramento, the club announced today.  To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A’s designated catcher Anthony Recker for assignment.

Anderson began the season on the 60-day DL as he continued his recovery from July 14, 2011 “Tommy John” surgery on his left elbow.  He is scheduled to start tomorrow night against Minnesota, his first Major League start since June 5, 2011 at Boston.  Anderson began a rehab assignment July 21 with Single-A Stockton and then made five starts with Triple-A Sacramento from July 26 to August 15.  He was 1-1 with a 4.62 ERA in six starts overall, walking just five batters in 25.1 innings.

Straily was recalled by Oakland on August 3 and went 1-0 with a 3.18 ERA in three starts.  He picked up his first Major League win in his last start last Thursday at Kansas City, tossing 6.1 shutout innings.  Straily was leading the minors with 175 strikeouts at the time of his promotion to Oakland and that total is still 16 more than any other minor leaguer.

Recker was on the A’s Opening Day roster and hit .129 in 13 games before he was optioned to Sacramento May 28.  He is currently batting .265 with nine home runs and 29 RBI in 52 games with the River Cats.
