A's raise funds for breast cancer education, research

OAKLAND -- The A's on Sunday raised $53,600 while celebrating the 14th annual Breast Cancer Awareness Day, with proceeds benefiting several cancer foundations.

The American Cancer Society, Cancer Prevention Institute of California and Susan G. Komen for the Cure shared in the funds, and the event has now brought in more than $1.25 million for breast cancer education and research over 14 years.

A special pregame ceremony featured more than 500 Bay Area breast cancer survivors forming a symbolic human ribbon on the field. It marked a dedication to survival, while the release of white doves served as a symbol of hope.
