Norberto unavailable if A's move on

OAKLAND -- Should the A's move on to the American League Championship Series on Thursday night, they'll have to do so without stalwart lefty reliever Jordan Norberto.

Norberto, who has been sidelined since mid-August with shoulder tendinitis, was left off the AL Division Series roster as he continues to rehab, and manager Bob Melvin said Thursday, "It's tough to consider him an option no matter how far we go."

The 25-year-old southpaw was slated to throw from 135 feet in the afternoon, but has yet to reach a mound for a bullpen session.

Norberto gave the A's 52 innings of work this year from a variety of roles, posting a 2.77 ERA along the way.
