McCarthy cleared to resume baseball activity
Oakland right-hander Brandon McCarthy has has been cleared to resume regular baseball activities, according to the San Francisco Chronicle's Susan Slusser, who tweeted, "Concussion expert Dr. Michael Collins ran McCarthy through tests this week and determined he is back to where he was last spring training."

McCarthy took a line drive from Angels shortstop Erick Aybar off the head on Sept. 5. The hit caused a life-threatening skull fracture that would require brain surgery, cutting short his solid 2012 season, in which he went 8-6, posting a career-best 3.24 ERA after 18 starts.
