"We just want to make sure he's 100 percent when he comes back," Melvin said. "We'll get there."
Young was slated to take part in all workouts Wednesday morning, and he could potentially return to game action Thursday if all goes well. Melvin, though, is done making promises.
"Sometimes I get a little ahead of myself," he said. "He'll do all the drills today, and we'll see how he's doing tomorrow."
Because of the minor injury, Young's had just three at-bats this spring. The A's, though, are more concerned about getting him ample playing time in the field, as he learns to handle the corner-outfield spots, in addition to his natural center-field position. He'll play all three this year for Oakland.
