Rodriguez exits Padres game with elbow soreness

PEORIA, Ariz. -- A's reliever Fernando Rodriguez exited Monday's game against the Padres with right elbow soreness after throwing just seven pitches in the sixth inning.

Making his fourth appearance of the spring, Rodriguez walked a batter and was seen latching on to his pitching elbow. Shortly after, he departed the field with a trainer.

Because the injury surfaced in the later innings, manager Bob Melvin was without much more information after the game and unsure whether the right-hander would have an MRI test.

Rodriguez, acquired in the Jed Lowrie trade, has given up a combined three runs and four hits in 2 2/3 innings this spring. He is unlikely to make the team out of camp, with so few bullpen spots open for so many relievers.
