A's acquire OF Casper Wells from Toronto for cash

|

The Oakland A's acquired outfielder Casper Wells from the Toronto Blue Jays in exchange for cash considerations, the club announced today.  To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the A's transferred infielder Scott Sizemore to the 60-day disabled list.  A 25-man roster move will be made once Wells reports to Boston.

Wells was with Seattle this spring and hit .189 with two home runs and 14 RBI in 16 games before he was designated for assignment March 31.  He was claimed off waivers by Toronto April 10, reported to the Blue Jays April 12, and did not appear in a game before he was designated for assignment April 15.  The 28-year-old right-handed hitter spent most of the 2012 season with Seattle, batting .228 with 10 home runs and 36 RBI in 93 games.  Wells started 42 games in left field, 23 in right field and nine in center field while recording a team-leading eight outfield assists.  He did not commit an error in 159 chances.

Sizemore was placed on the 15-day disabled list April 10 with a sprained left knee.  An MRI revealed a torn left anterior cruciate ligament and he underwent successful ACL revision surgery April 16.  This his second career stint on the disabled list as he also missed the entire 2012 season after tearing the ACL in his left knee in the team's first full-squad workout Feb. 27 in Phoenix.
