ARLINGTON -- One day after going 3-for-4 with a home run, A's outfielder Travis Buck hit the 15-day disabled list with a strained left oblique.
"Obviously, you gotta have moves," manager Bob Geren said. "We're day to day with so many guys."
Buck was hitting .235 with three home runs and nine RBIs with the Athletics this season. He is the 10th A's player to go on the DL and second this week. The A's set a team record by using the DL 25 times last season.
The team also optioned relief pitcher Jeff Gray to Triple-A Sacramento. He was called up Wednesday and retired the only batter he faced Friday. Gray was also with the club from May 9-13 and made one relief appearance. He retired the only hitter he faced on May 10 against Toronto.
The A's called up Aaron Cunningham from Triple-A. He was hitting .279 in 14 games with Sacramento. Geren says Cunningham can play all three outfield positions.
Infielder Gregorio Petit joins the Major League club for the second time this season. He went 5-for-20 (.250) from May 1-9.
