Davis had a .405 average, .488 on-base percentage and slugged .595 in July. His 14 RBIs since the All-Star break rank second in the American League.
"He's a talented player," Oakland manager Bob Geren said. "He's seeing the ball well and he has a good streak going. ... He's played exceptional defense as well."
The Athletics pitching staff gladly thanks Davis for his outfield play.
"Rajai has made some real nice plays," said Dallas Braden. "We see that from him day in and day out. He's spoiled us, really."
"He's done a nice job. He really has," Geren said. "That's not easy to do when you're a part-time player."
The way Davis has been going, Geren might not be able to call him a part-timer much longer. The A's have four other outfielders -- Ryan Sweeney, Eric Patterson, Scott Hairston and Jack Cust -- they'd like to give regular playing time, though.
OAK: LHP Brett Anderson (6-8, 4.33 ERA)
Anderson won for the second time in as many career starts at Fenway Park on Wednesday, firing six innings of three-run ball against the Red Sox. The hard-throwing lefty racked up eight strikeouts, seven of which were against Boston sluggers Jason Bay and Kevin Youkilis. Anderson has allowed nine runs -- seven earned -- over nine innings in two outings against the Rangers this season.
TEX: RHP Dustin Nippert (3-0, 3.38 ERA)
Nippert receives another emergency start, this time in place of the injured Kevin Millwood. Over his past 14 innings, he has allowed two earned runs, which has dropped his season ERA from 7.36. Against the A's in his career, Nippert is 1-0 with a 2.93 ERA over 15 1/3 innings. His last appearance came on Saturday, when he allowed two hits in one scoreless inning. He picked up the win in his previous start, allowing one earned run over 5 2/3 innings at home against the Red Sox on July 22.
Entering Sunday's play, Mark Ellis was tied for the American League lead with seven doubles since the All-Star break. His 14 runs scored were good for second. ... Adam Kennedy ranked third in the AL with a .394 average with runners in scoring position. ... Eric Munson hit a two-run home run for Triple-A Sacramento on Saturday, his 11th homer of the year. Munson leads the River Cats with 54 RBIs and is batting .389 in his past 11 games. ... Chris Carter is riding a 16-game hitting streak with Double-A Midland. He's batting .455 over that stretch.
