The Oakland A's have sent minor league catcher David Freitas to the Baltimore Orioles as the player to be named later to complete last week's Jim Johnson trade which also included A's infielder Jemile Weeks, the club announced today.
In other A's news, the team has outrighted left-handed pitcher Andrew Werner to Triple-A Sacramento. He had been designated for assignment Dec. 4 and cleared waivers today.
Freitas, 24, batted .231 with 14 doubles, seven home runs and 30 RBI in 90 games with Triple-A Sacramento and Double-A Midland in 2013. Originally acquired by Oakland for Kurt Suzuki in an Aug. 3, 2012 trade with Washington, Freitas batted .268 with eight doubles, one homer and nine RBI in 29 games with Sacramento.
Werner, 26, was ranked second on the River Cats in victories last season, posting a 12-14 record and 5.78 ERA in 27 games, including 26 starts. He allowed 202 hits and 38 walks in 165.0 innings while striking out 111. He joined the A's on Nov. 16, 2012, when he and infielder Andy Parrino were traded by San Diego for Tyson Ross and A.J. Kirby-Jones.
