A's Recall RHP Arnold Leon from Triple-A Sacramento

|

The Oakland A's recalled right-handed pitcher Arnold Leon from Triple-A Sacramento for today's doubleheader, the club announced.

Leon will be making his Major League debut after going 2-1 with a 4.34 ERA in six starts at Triple-A Sacramento. He allowed a .296 opponents batting average and yielded just one home run in 29.0 innings. The 25-year-old right-hander allowed seven runs in 7.1 innings over his first two starts but is 2-0 with a 2.91 ERA over his last four starts.

The A's originally purchased the rights to Leon's contract from Saltillo of the Mexican League on Nov. 21, 2007 before purchasing his contract outright March 15, 2008. He missed most of the 2010 and 2011 seasons following "Tommy John" surgery and is 17-14 with a 3.75 ERA in 136 games over seven seasons in the A's farm system. Leon becomes the eighth Mexican in Athletics history, but is the first to come up through the A's farm system.
