OAKLAND -- White Sox manager Robin Ventura successfully challenged a ruling in the top of the fourth inning of Wednesday's matinee against the A's.

On the third pitch of an at-bat between White Sox left fielder Dayan Viciedo and A's starter Tommy Milone, the southpaw delivered a ball high and tight. The pitch bounced off Viciedo's hand near the base of the bat and he reacted like he was hit, but home-plate umpire Manny Gonzalez called it a foul ball. After replay officials in New York reviewed the play, they ruled that Viciedo should be awarded first base.

As a trainer tended to Viciedo behind the plate, Ventura emerged from the dugout to plead his case to Gonzalez, before crew chief Fieldin Culbreth trotted down from third base to speak with replay officials. It marked Ventura's second successful replay challenge out of seven tries.

Viciedo's at-bat came with the score tied at 1. He was eventually stranded at first base as Milone retired the next three White Sox.
