A's Designate OF Matthes for Assignment

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland Athletics have designated outfielder Kent Matthes for assignment, it was announced today. The move clears a 40-man roster spot for left-handed pitcher Justin Marks, who was acquired from the Kansas City Royals earlier today.

Matthes was claimed off waivers by the A's from Colorado March 20. He was batting .217 with five home runs and 25 RBI in 48 games with Sacramento and Double-A Midland. Matthes added 14 walks for a .275 on-base percentage and was slugging .370. The 27-year-old hit four of his five home runs and had a .470 slugging percentage in 22 games with the RockHounds.
