OAKLAND -- A's manager Bob Melvin won a challenge in the third inning of his club's game against the Red Sox on Friday, reversing an initial ruling that Craig Gentry was not hit by a pitch.

Replays proved that Gentry was indeed hit on the right foot by a pitch from Red Sox lefty Felix Doubront to lead off the inning, despite home-plate umpire Gerry Davis' call of a ball.

Gentry took his base but did not score in the frame.
