OAKLAND -- Brandon Moss was not in the A's lineup Saturday against Blue Jays left-hander Mark Buehrle after spraining his left ankle Friday. The ankle swelled up a bit more than Moss expected, though he still does not believe the injury to be anything serious.

"It was a little more sore today than I thought it was going to be, because yesterday after the game it actually didn't hurt quite as bad," Moss said. "Right after I did it, I really thought I messed it up, but it's doing good, it'll be all right."

Moss received treatment before Saturday's game, and while he said he could play if necessary, manager Bob Melvin prefers to give him a full day off if possible.

"He's one of the toughest guys we have and doesn't like a day off, let alone a couple days," Melvin said. "We'll keep him off the field for BP today, give him some treatment and see how he is tomorrow."

Moss rolled over the ankle while attempting to leave the batter's box on an eighth-inning ground ball. Alberto Callaspo replaced him at first base, and Nate Freiman got the start at first on Saturday.
