News and Notes About the A's Upcoming Homestand

OAKLAND - Coming out of the All-Star Break with the best record in the Major Leagues at 59-36 (.621), the A's play host to the American League East-leading Baltimore Orioles and division-rival Houston Astros in a six-game homestand beginning Friday night at the O.co Coliseum.

The homestand begins on Friday, July 18, with a 7:05 p.m. game against Baltimore, the first day of the A's 1989 World Series Champs Reunion Weekend. The series continues with a 6:05 p.m. game Saturday, where members of the '89 squad will be honored before the game, and concludes with a 1:05 p.m. game against the Orioles on Sunday, July 20.

On Tuesday, July 22, the Astros bring young talents Jose Altuve, Jon Singleton and George Springer to Oakland for an intra-division series, highlighted by Root Beer Float Day before the 7:05 p.m. game on Wednesday, July 23. Promotions & Special Events

1989 World Series Reunion Weekend: The A's are celebrating the 25th anniversary of the 1989 World Championship, beginning Friday, July 18. When ballpark gates open on Friday, fans can purchase special tickets in the Eastside Club lower lobby to attend autograph sessions with players from the '89 team. On Saturday, 15,000 fans will receive a 1989 Throwback T-Shirt, presented by Sungevity, and the '89 team will be honored during a pregame ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m. Rickey Henderson, Dennis Eckersley and Tony La Russa will participate in "Hall of Fame" autograph sessions for fans that purchase special tickets in the Eastside Club when gates open on Saturday. Proceeds from the weekend's events benefit the Angelman Syndrome Foundation. **For a complete list of activities during the 1989 reunion weekend, please visit athletics.com/1989 and refer to the separate media release sent Wednesday.**

15th Annual Root Beer Float Day: Prior to the game on Wednesday, July 23, fans are invited to participate in the A's 15th Annual Root Beer Float Day. Beginning at 5:05 p.m., A's players, coaches and local celebrities will serve fans root beer floats for $2 each, with proceed benefitting the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF). Sugar-free floats will also be available, and admission is free with a game ticket. **For more information and a complete list of participants, refer to the separate media release to be sent Monday.**

Patelco Throwback Thursday: On Thursday, July 24, 5,000 fans will receive a commemorative scorecard and a Mickey Cochrane throwback button as part of Patelco Credit Union's Throwback Thursday. This is the fifth of the seven-game button giveaway, featuring various characters from the A's colorful history.

Community Relations

A's Community Fund Silent Auctions: Every Saturday and Sunday home game (and other select games), the A's Community Fund hosts a silent auction featuring signed and unsigned A's memorabilia as well as game-used items. The silent auctions are located in the A's fan center behind Section 120 and end with the last out in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Little A's: On Saturday, July 19, and Thursday, July 24, deserving youth and their chaperones of non-profit organizations will get the opportunity to attend an A's game free of charge as part of the Little A's program. In addition to a game ticket, each child receives a Bank of America souvenir and child-admission pass to the Oakland Zoo. The Little A's program is presented by Bank of America and supported by the Oakland Zoo and Clorox.

Take the Field with the A's: The Take the Field with the A's program gives youth baseball and softball teams the chance to live out their Major League dreams. On Sunday, July 20, the Canyon Creek Little League All-Stars will join Oakland A's players on the field during the National Anthem. Also, children from the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation will participate prior to the game on Wednesday, July 23. Each participant receives an autographed baseball and t-shirt, courtesy of Wells Fargo.

PLAY Program Clinic: The PLAY program-which stands for Promoting a Lifetime of Activity for Youth-is a public awareness campaign developed by the Professional Baseball Athletic Trainers Society (PBATS) in 2004 to combat child obesity. In conjunction with the A's athletic training staff, PLAY will host a clinic for 100 little leaguers from North Oakland-South Oakland Little League from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 22.

Christmas in July with the Salvation Army: At the Astros vs. A's game on Thursday, July 24, the Salvation Army will be on hand to set up barrels and red kettles at C Gate, D Gate and the BART Plaza to collect school supplies for needy children.
