ARLINGTON -- The right thumb sprain that kept Yoenis Cespedes out of Thursday's lineup was no longer an issue Friday, when the A's welcomed back their slugger to the starting lineup for the start of a three-game set against the host Rangers.

Coco Crisp was missing from it, though, because of a routine day off, so manager Bob Melvin started Cespedes in center field, with Brandon Moss manning left.

Cespedes snapped his career high-tying 25-game homerless streak with his fifth career two-homer game Wednesday and entered the day 8-for-21 with four extra-base hits since the All-Star break. He was 0-for-19 before that.

Crisp has routinely been given rest this season to offset his injury-prone ways. The 34-year-old has started just 68 of the club's 102 games.
