A's recall Pomeranz, option Freiman


OAKLAND, Calif. - The Oakland A's recalled left-handed pitcher Drew Pomeranz from Triple-A Sacramento and optioned first baseman Nate Freiman to Single-A Beloit, the club announced today.

Pomeranz was on the A's Opening Day roster and went 1-1 with a 1.98 ERA in nine relief appearances before moving into the starting rotation May 7. He went 4-3 with a 3.21 ERA in eight starts and was 5-4 with a 2.91 ERA in 17 games overall when he fractured his right hand June 16. The 25-year-old left-hander was placed on the 15-day disabled list the next day and made one rehab start with Sacramento before he was reinstated from the DL and optioned to Sacramento July 13. Pomeranz went 3-1 with a 3.69 ERA in eight starts with the River Cats.

Freiman is batting .241 with four home runs and 12 RBI in 22 games over two stints with the A's. He was recalled from Sacramento August 3 for his second stint and went 6 for 21 (.286) with three home runs and six RBI in eight games. Freiman batted .284 with 15 home runs and 74 RBI in 80 games with Sacramento.
